Benjamin Donn's 1765 Map of Devon

The oldest map I've yet been able to find for Meshaw. Note Pyes Nest, with the little tree symbols, alongside the road from Gidley Cross to the Link Road. Pye is an old name for a magpie. Did the modern Presnest derive its name from this?

Note too the spelling of Alswear, Mariansleigh and Romansleigh.
